The King of Happiness
A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy? Albert Einstein
What is happiness?
The world today seems to revolve around everyone’s happiness. Everywhere a person looks there is something beckoning to them for their attention. Every sale, every site, every man (or woman’s) post seems to be looking for a way to fill a person’s needs. If the ultimate need is happiness, then everyone claims to have a solution.
On a deeper level, the issue of being happy lies at the very core of someone’s belief systems whether they want to believe it or not! It lies within their philosophies about life. If an individual is truly going to pursue happiness with any success and for any length of time or consistency, then they better start thinking about what experiences they have had that created their belief systems about being happy to begin with.
If someone does not examine their own belief systems then they will be chasing after contentedness for their entire lives with little to no success.
Here are a few definitions of "happy" according to Merrian-Webster:
1: favored by luck or fortune : FORTUNATE a happy coincidence
2: notably fitting, effective, or well adapted : FELICITOUS a happy choice
3a: enjoying or characterized by well-being and contentment is the happiest person I know a happy childhood
b: expressing, reflecting, or suggestive of happiness a happy ending
c: GLAD, PLEASED I'm happy to meet you
d: having or marked by an atmosphere of good fellowship : FRIENDLY a happy office
To be honest, the first definition seems to be pointing to a type of serendipity that is beyond someone's control. This definition seems depressing as it is implying that a person can't be happy if they weren't meant to be.
I know what you're thinking. Here we go getting flooded with bible verses about happiness and then guilted because somehow we failed the test. That isn't the point. How to get it? That is the question. Did you think it would be easy?
Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God has already accepted your works.
Proverbs 10:28 The hope of the righteous will be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.
John 16:24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
There are so many more verses. The point I want to make is that most christians are no different from the world when it comes to their approach to satisfying their need for contentment. They don't read their bibles, let alone follow what it says. They are terrible examples and leave behind them a path of confused observers who only see the reflection of themselves in the end. They are only empty vessels that never got filled. They suffer for lack of knowledge. They failed to truly seek God. If you're lucky, then God will bring you trials so painful that they bring you to your knees in front of His throne pleading for mercy, begging forgiveness, and receiving in return the most glorious humility and light of salvation the world could ever hope to see. Everything a person could ever need or want will be satisfied in Him and through Him. If only...
The King of happiness is waiting.
